Turned from laburnum sourced during a rare haul of beautifully seasoned timber from a retiring woodturner, this piece is part of a playful series of globular, mushroom‑like forms. Among the yew, mulberry, cherry, brown oak, spalted ash, and exotic hardwoods collected that day, the laburnum stood out for its striking contrast and fine grain — a timber well worth extending the woodshed for.

Standing 135mm high with a 100mm diameter, the form showcases laburnum’s hallmark pairing of dark heartwood and pale sapwood. The smooth, glass‑like body draws the eye, while the live‑edge rims retain the natural character of the branch. The result is a small but expressive piece, full of charm and individuality.

Finished with Chestnut cellulose sanding sealer and Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax, the surface is smooth, tactile, and fully food‑ and toy‑safe. A true one‑off — shaped by nature and finished by hand.
