Turned from laburnum sourced during a rare haul of beautifully seasoned timber from a retiring woodturner, this piece carries both the character of the wood and the memory of that once‑in‑a‑lifetime find. Among the yew, mulberry, cherry, brown oak, spalted ash, and exotic hardwoods collected that day, this was the first time the maker had ever worked with laburnum — and it left a lasting impression.

Standing 185mm high with a 90mm base diameter, the form is simple and understated, allowing the natural cracks and colour contrasts of the laburnum to take centre stage. These features give the piece its personality and a sense of connection to the tree’s history.

Finished with Chestnut cellulose sanding sealer and Chestnut Microcrystalline Wax, the surface is smooth, tactile, and fully food‑ and toy‑safe. A quiet, expressive one‑off — shaped by nature and finished by hand.
